True cigarettes, manufactured by Lorillard (the makers of Newports), are a low tar product with a unique plastic filter that is supposed to enhance the flavor and make it more satisfying than a comparable cigarette with the same low tar content. True cigarettes have been around since the early 1980’s and both the full flavor and menthol cigarettes are manufactured with about 4 mg of tar.
